“F” is for Friday, and for Food!

Every Friday Fun, Crafts and Recipes has its Four Foods on Friday thing, and invites readers to play along.  It’s fun to participate in this weekly food fun and you even get to learn some interesting things about cooking.  I wanted to play this week, so this post is my contribution.

1. Share a recipe for something Italian.

This was my mother’s recipe many years ago.  I have never used it because the recipe I use has gone over the top with spices and probably costs more than it should to make.  Maybe I should try this one based on its simplicity!  I’ll let you guys know how it goes!

1 1/2 lbs hamburger
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 c Progresso Unseasoned bread crumbs
1 large onion, chopped
1 1/2 tsp Salt
3/4 tsp Pepper
1/4 can Marinara sauce (don’t know the brand)

Mix together all ingredients well, except Topping (preparation of Topping below).  Pack into meat loaf pan.  Pour Topping over loaf.  Bake at 350 for 1 and 1/2 hours.  Pour off grease before serving.

Remaining 3/4 can Marinara sauce
1 C  Water
2 T  ea. of brown sugar, vinegar, and spicy mustard

Mix Topping ingredients well. Pour over loaf before putting in oven.

Good luck with it!  I’ll let you know how mine comes out!  🙂

2. Jam, jelly, preserves, marmalade, fruit butter or butter. What’s on your toast or bread?

Smart Balance Omega 3  It’s really tasty and makes a great spread for toast — because it has olive oil in it!
3.  What’s your favorite Kellogg’s product?

Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Pop Tarts.  It’s not a cereal but it’s a breakfast food and I like them with milk!

4. Do you like liver? What about liverwurst?

No!  Yuck, yuck and double yuck!

I was just talking this morning about how important food is to me!  🙂   I’m looking forward to trying out this noodle lasagna!

It’s hard to find another Brown Sugar Cinnamon Pop Tart girl! Something about those yummy spices all mixed together!

Hi Anele! That is so funny — I thought I was the only nut that way. The funny part is that I don’t like the other ones. I’ve tried, but they just can’t cut it. You’re right, those two go together very nicely! 🙂 Cinnamon and sugar are good, but that brown sugar adds such a yummy touch.

    Sounds ono.

    Hi Keahi!

Actually, I did make it last night and it was quite good. I added Mozarella cheese to the top just before it was time to come out of the oven and it went nicely. Cheddar cheese would have given a different twist to the taste, but just as good. 🙂

I haven’t eaten Pop Tarts in ages, but I remember how good the Brown Sugar and Cinnamon Pop Tarts are!

Hi Charla, thanks for stopping by! I like them and I don’t think they taste as phony as some of the others. I know Costco sells those packs with the brown sugar and cinnamon accompanied by the strawberry ones that do taste phony. I guess the others have just lost if for me. Maybe I’ve just gotten too old to appreciate them anymore. 🙂

That sounds like a good way to make a tasty and very moist meatloaf. I will be trying your recipe. Thanks.

That’s a very savvy observation, Karen. Thank you for saying that. You’re right, it was very moist and it was nice to have something just a little different and something that is faster to make than my usual meat loaf endeavors. 🙂 Let us know how yours comes out!

Finally, another fellow poptart fan. I was beginning to think my tastebuds were immature. 🙂

I’ve thought about it too, DeeBee. Behaving like an adolescent when food is the topic is not such a bad thing. 🙂 I too thought I was the only nut case but listening to some of you, I’m in good company!
