Weekend Updates

University of Hawaii Warriors Football

Did he or didn’t he?  He didn’t.  Wiser and more cautious minds prevailed and Colt Brennan opted not to play last night and to give his ankle a break.  The Warriors won in spite of it all with a final score of 66 to 10.

Aloha Festivals

O’ahu will say aloha to the Aloha Festivals for this year.  With the exception of the 13th Annual Falsetto Contest next Saturday, September 28th in Waikiki, the focus of the Aloha Festivals in October will be on Maui and Moloka’i.

Anyone interested in attending the Falsetto Contest will find it at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel in the Hawai’i Ballroom.  That’s at 7 pm this coming Saturday, doors open at 6 pm.  For more information, call 808-589-1771.

Hawaii Superferry and Kaua’i

After all of the drama and emotion displayed during the Governor’s visit to Kaua’i to talk about the Superferry and its resumption of service to Maunawili harbor, the Superferry was the one who said, in a nutshell, “Uh, never mind.”  They have decided to suspend service to Kaua’i indefinitely, much to the relief of Kaua’i residents.  Perhaps once the environmental impact study is complete, cooler heads will prevail.

Portuguese Festival

Portuguese Festival Sign

The festival, presented by the Hawaii Council on Portuguese Heritage, continues today at McCoy Pavillion.  Hurry before the malasadas sell out, again!  We’ll talk more about this festival this coming week!

    Hi Evelyn,
You’re absolutely right! Colt Brennan did not play in last nights game against Charleston Southern. But you could tell by watching him on the side lines that he wanted desperately to get in there! But I do think the coaches did the right thing (though I being a little selfish wanted to see him in there), not wanting to risk the chance of a serious injury. But the question is, will this hurt his chances on the Heisman? Since Hawai’i already has a pretty soft schedule this year, I do believe that padding his numbers wouldn’t have hurt him a bit. Anyway I guess we’ll see how it all plays out in the end! You know Evelyn I really do appreciate your blogging and this incredible website. I sure wish more of your readers would get a lot more involved than they do. Looking through all of your stories and I’ve seen them all, it takes a special individual such as yourself to get these stories out. Anyway please keep up the good work!!

Thank you, George, for the kind words. They’re a bit over the top — there are many out there that do a lot more than I do! Your point is well taken… I’m sure Colt was chomping at the bit to get in the game and do his thing, but I think keeping himself in one piece for the rest of the season was the bet decision. Can’t wait until next week!

My team (NC State Wolfpack) isn’t doing so well this year. I’m thinking about adopting UH as my team for a year. 😉

Hey Sheila! You’re funny! I don’t think they would mind being adopted. The way I see it, the more people that are cheering for them the better! I’m sure NC will get it together. Maybe next year! ‘Til then you can cheer for us! Shhh… we won’t tell! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!
