Turn on the Sirens! It’s Carnival Time!

Honolulu Fire Department Engine No. 50

Welcome to the Anniversary Edition of the Carnival of Aloha!  It’s been a year since it all began but I think we’ve come a long way.  We’ve got more people and we’ve discovered more Hawaii blogs than we knew we had.  In the interest of saving time, we’ve got the Honolulu Fire Department’s Engine No. 50 to help us tour the Carnival.  Mahalo to the Honolulu Fire Department who, incidentally, doesn’t know a thing about it.  🙂

Speaking of someone who doesn’t know a thing about what’s going on,  I had no idea that some of the other island residents have some political drama of their own.  As we start to bid farewell to a very hot summer, we are looking at a very interesting campaign year!

Damon Tucker joins us for the first time and presents Is a Billy Kenoi Smear On? posted at Damon Tucker’s Weblog.  This is indicative to me that Honolulu is not the only one with a little bit of political drama.  It’s nice to know we’re not the only ones!   Thank you, Damon, for joining us and for sharing!  Stay with us and join us again for the next Carnival!

We can now continue with other things that people don’t know a thing about!

Ron over at Your Aloha Connection submitted a story from another blog.  A Hawaii Home In Hilo is a story posted by a relatively new resident who blogs over at Hilo Living.  Ron said, “This isn’t my blog or post, but I thought it was great post, so I submitted it. Congrats on the anniversary!!!”  Thank you for that, Ron, and for the new discovery!  Hopefully our new friend see this and will continue to join us every month!  This post talks about energy-efficient living and is a nice lead-in for Ron’s post.

TheSecretTestimonials.com, aka Ron from above, kind of follow suit as he shares Renewable Energy in Hawaii posted at Your Aloha Connection.  The whole green thing is on my radar for sure so I really do appreciate these posts.

We can cook without a stove.  That’s energy conservation!  Check this out:

Sheila presents What is an imu ceremony at a luau? posted at Hawaii Vacation Blog – GoVisitHawaii.com, saying, “How about some kalua pork hot out of the imu (oven)? I wrote this post to help visitors understand more about the origin and process of imu cooking and why it’s neat to see an imu ceremony at a luau.”

Thank you, Sheila.  It’s been a long time, 1982 if I remember correctly, since I’ve been a part of the imu cooking of pork.  It brings back fond memories of the fresh-out-of-high-school days.  🙂   Leeward Oahu is a great place for food, as we’re about to find out!

Skeet is sharing a post with us that’s all about the Sunset on the Beach 2008 posted over at Skeet’s Stuff.  It’s all about raising money for the kids but it’s also about guess what?  You got it!   Food!  🙂  I had not idea that such a venue started over along the Waianae coast.  Shucks!  Only once a year, Skeet?  Sigh.

Now it’s time for dessert!

HawaiiVacationGifts presents Mountain Apple Season in Hawaii posted at Hawaii Vacation Gifts by Double Brush-Hawaiian Gifts & Blog, saying, “Hi Evelyn, Hope you got to taste some mountain apples this summer.”  You bet I did!  I’ve loved them for about thirty years and thought I could only find them in Makaha Valley because that’s the only place I ever saw them.  But, a co-worker actually has a tree in her yard and brought some to work!

Now that we’ve done all of that eating, we may need some exercise!

Pua presents Kona Ironman Accommodation posted at Best Hawaii Vacation with Hawaii Vacation Blog, saying, “Visit Hawaii Big Island for the next Hawaii Ironman Triathlon Championship in Kona on Saturday 10/11/08. An experience of a lifetime!”

Time to get into shape if you’re thinking of participating!

Of course Evelyn, that’s me, loves to eat and I’m going to share the food from Formaggio Grill with you guys once again .  Take a look at Grilling Italian Style posted right here at Homespun Honolulu and wait for your stomach to growl!  🙂  All this food is going to take me a couple of days to work off but, oh well.

That concludes our Anniversary edition! Submit your blog article to the next edition of carnival of aloha using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
