Hand-Made yarn lei of red & yellow, symbolic of Hawaiian royalty. The 87th Annual Song Contest will take place at Neal Blaisdell Center located in Honolulu, will be telecast live on KGMB Channel 9 (CBS) and will have a live, streaming webcast for the rest of the world to see!

It is slated to being at 7:00 HST on Friday night, March 23rd.

For the curious, Hawaii is 3 hours behind California and 6 hours behind New York. So, at 7 our time, it will be 10:00 PM in California and 1:00 AM Saturday morning in New York.

The Contest may not have the biggest audience outside of Hawaii, but it will be available for those who are willing to stay up late and want to get a taste of this unusual access to Hawaiian culture.

This event promises to provide music, dance, vocals and traditional attire, providing a treat for viewers.

Do they still have music festivals at the Bishop Music Museum? I loved that place!

    Hey blessed!
They still have their moonlight mele during the summer if that’s what you’re talking about. That one is slated for this blog so I’ll be sure and keep you posted! Thank you for visiting! I hope you catch a little of Kamehameha’s thing. It always reminds me of May Day with all of the flowers and the boys in their sashes. Remember May Day? Hey, a blog idea! I think I’ll find me an elementary school that’s having a program this year!  See, blessed, you helped me come up with a great idea! You just have to visit more often. Have a good weekend!

I’m watching it now from California, and it’s just lovely. Thanks for sharing this. I’m 100% sure I would have missed it if you hadn’t written about it.

I went to St. Anthony’s when I lived there…man that seems like a looooong time ago. I miss the island! We had something for May Day too.

I don’t know, Alani. I will certainly be on the look out for it! KGMB was supposed to have a re-broadcast last night (Saturday). Did you see it? Surely the school will have a copy of your performances. I’m very proud of you guys!

Sadly, something like that will not get shown in Britain.

I’m sorry, my good Captain Picard, I can only hope they add more live, Internet-streaming videos for events here in Honolulu. I will be sure to nudge you if I see any others coming up so you can get in on them if at all possible!
