Summer Fun!

Summer has started and, for Honolulu at least, summer usually means the beach! So, for June and July we will talk about aquatic things and other events that pop up.

Animated walking shoeSummer also brings sporting events and other outdoor activities. Active.com provides us with a list of runs and/or walks that are coming up and that lead up to the Honolulu Marathon in December.

Most of the walks are charitable fund raisers but the organizers have tried to keep them interesting for participants so, for the most part, they make them a little challenging. The others are put on by clubs and other groups for health and fitness reasons.

Whatever the catalyst is for these events, they help build a sense of community and that in itself makes it worth the effort.

Great to hear about all the big summer events in Honolulu. We just had the half honu ironman on Hawaii Big island at Mauna Lani Resort. The Honu Half Ironman Triathlon covers a 1.2 mile swim at Hapuna Beach State Park, a 56 mile bike to Hawi and back, followed by a 13.1 mile run through the grounds of the Mauna Lani Resort. The race is organized by the World Triathlon Corporation, the same company that produces the Ironman World Championship held in Kailua-Kona each October. Great preparation for the Big Island Ironman on 10/13/07. Aloha, Pua

I loved my visit to Oahu. My son is in the Navy so I went to meet his ship there. It was absolute paradise.

I wish I had this article prior to my travels, but I’ll definitely have it for the next time.

    Thanks

Thank you so much for listing the schedule for all of these upcoming race events. I’ll make sure to have my tv remote in hand, my Reeses peanut butter cups close by while all of you crazy bananas out there are killing yourselves in the HOT sun. But please you must let me know how it all went. Got to go, my hot pockets are ready!!!

We’ll be sure to let you know! Hmmm… my race starts at 5 a.m. — not much sun but it’ll be warm enough as it gets light I’m sure!
