Can you read this? What if no one can?

In case you have not heard of Bloggers Unite, it is an organization that makes an “attempt to harness the power of the blogosphere to make the world a better place. By asking bloggers to write about a particular subject, a single voice can be joined with thousands to help make a difference.

Bloggers Unite.org once again has bloggers stepping up to the plate to attract attention to an area that needs a lot of that attention.  The International Literacy numbers are shocking!

Grim illiteracy statistics report that, “42 million American adults can’t read at all; 50 million are unable to read at a higher level that is expected of a fourth or fifth grader.”  These statistics may be dated but they only get worse! And that’s just America!

This is a global problem.  The State of Hawaii and the City & County of Honolulu are no exception. Hawaii Literacy.org is very aware of just how much is needed in this area.

For more information and other useful links, check out the page at Bloggers Unite!  You will be able to get to see what the other bloggers have to say about this issue.

Hi Susie, thanks for stopping by! I was shocked at just how staggering those numbers are! I’m still asking myself, “but how?” It’s important to keep people in the know.
